NY protests Israeli-imposed Gaza siege
Hundreds of Americans have taken to the streets of New York despite the freezing cold weather to speak out against Israeli aggression on Palestinians.
The protest was to mark the 2nd anniversary of Israel's all-out war on Gaza at the turn of 2009 in which at least 1,400 Palestinians, mainly women and children, were killed.
The protests were held to bring to attention the illegal Israeli blockade on Gaza that began long before Hamas took office after winning the Palestinian elections in 2006.
The siege of Gaza continued after the war and drew the condemnation of the international community. Israel has continued to close all border crossings to the Gaza Strip for more than 3 years now.
The war has taken a heavy physical, emotional and mental toll on the people of Gaza. Many still need professional help to come to terms with the war.
Many Palestinian men have spent the last two years struggling to find work under the blockade and the aftermath of the war which inflicted over USD 2 billion on Gaza's economy.
Protesters and activists vowed to keep pressure on Israel and the US government to bring justice to Palestine.
Director of the Police Explosives Engineering Department in Gaza Major Tahseen Saad said that Israeli army dropped more than 3,000 tons of munitions containing incendiary materials on the Gaza Strip during its three-week onslaught.
Some 1.5 million people are being denied from their basic rights, including freedom of movement, and their rights to appropriate living conditions, work, health and education.
